Scope and Contents: Transkei Men Building Homestead, 1947. There is a man sitting on a roof. Another man is standing on a ladder, throwing a bundle of grass to the man on the roof. Transkei homesteads are usually circular and built by interweaving rods and twigs and overlaying it with clay. They usually have one small door and one window about one square foot. Photograph by Constance Stuart Larrabee, 1947.; In 1947, Constance Staurt Larrabee visited the Transkei. She was there researching the housing problems in Southern Africa.; There are no prints of this negative in the Constance Stuart Larrabee Collection. EEPA produced an 8x10 study print and 6x6 contact print for reference purposes.
