- "The Azande had a certain territorial autonomy. They had a dispersed pattern of settlement, living not in villages but as family units in their own separate enclosures, surrounded by the agricultural land they had cultivated." [Schildkrout E., Keim C., 1990: African Reflections, University of Washington Press]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignement for National Geographic Film and traveled to Africa from January 19, 1972 to mid April 1972.
