- Original title reads, "Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria branch. This is a federal institution founded in 1951 with branches in each of the three regions; Zaria in the north, Enugu in the east, Ibadan in the west. The Zaria branch is the headquarters for the three branches and gives courses in arts, science, architecture, education, engineering, fine art, and had 405 students registered in 1958-59. In the picture, the five parallel buildings are hall of residence, accomodating 60 students each. The set of three parallel buildings are teaching blocks. The new construction going on around the five hostel blocks involves building courts and covered walkways." [Elisofon field notes, August 1959-December 1959]
- This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
