- Scope and Contents
- "Though Ibadan, as the largest city in tropical Africa and the capital of the Western Region of Nigeria, already contains important shopping and trading areas based on Western models, the bulk of the trading within the city still takes place through the marketplaces, the large number and variety of which constantly surprises and interests the visitor. Ibadan markets, indeed, include examples of most market types, both periodic and daily, to be found within yorubaland." [Lloyd P., Mabogunje A., Awe B., 1967: The City of Ibadan. Cambridge University Press]. This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon traveled to Africa from March 17, 1970 to July 17, 1970.
