- "Though Ibadan, as the largest city in tropical Africa and the capital of the Western Region of Nigeria, already contains important shopping and trading areas based on Western models, the bulk of the trading within the city still takes place through the marketplaces, the large number and variety of which constantly surprises and interests the visitor.
