- Scope and Contents
- Original title reads, "The Shell-BP Trade School was opened in December 1958. Jan F.D. Van Joolen, training coordinator for the school and instructor in Automotive and Diesel, lectures students on Diesel theory, fuel injection and timing. The cutaway Diesel is a Davey Paxman 500 BHP 12-cylinder job. It is used in instruction because the same engine is used on drilling barges and rigs." [Elisofon field notes, August 1959-December 1959]
- This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
