- "As in most countries, sports are popular in Ghana and closely followed by a large segment of the population. Soccer, or football, is considered the national sport with numerous professional and amateur groups competing at the national and regional level." This photograph was taken when Eliot Elisofon was on assignment for Life magazine and traveled to Africa from August 18, 1959 to December 20, 1959.
