Object Details

General: Located on Market Street in downtown Wilmington on the banks of the Brandywine, the garden of Elizabeth Canby Rumford (Mrs. Charles G.) complemented a 1792 house. The two-acre property was sold in 1933 to the City of Wilmington as a school site. Following demolition of the school and construction of a new high-rise building, the site became a park.; Historic plate caption: "[obscured] Charles G. Rumford [obscured] Market St. May 22nd."
