Former Title: Keating Garden
General: With grounds dating to 1898, this is the oldest unaltered Olmsted design in Massachusetts. The two-acre garden slopes very steeply south and is a walled series of large terraces ending in a street. The central terrace features flowering trees, wisteria, and flower beds, while the lower terraces includes a reflecting pool and berry patches. A walkway goes down the east border. A wisteria arbor parallels this walkway.; Persons associated with the property include: the Thayer family estate (former owner); Mr. and Mrs. Frederic C. Hood and family (former owners,1898-1962); Dr. and Mrs. Chilton Crane (former owners, 1962-1968); and the Olmsted Brothers (landscape architects).
