- Scope and Contents note
- Throughout its years of operation, Jacques Seligmann & Co., Inc., held numerous exhibitions in both the Paris and the New York galleries. This series houses the records related to those exhibitions. Exhibition records deal with the general logistics of exhibition planning and document staff inquiries to collectors or museums about availability of artwork for loans and other exhibition business. Master artists from the Renaissance and from seventeenth- through nineteenth-century France, as well as Impressionist and early modern painters, were all represented in the exhibitions held in Jacques Seligmann & Co. galleries. Scrapbooks served as a type of archival documentation of some of the exhibitions held in the galleries. Originally part of four large, oversized scrapbooks, the materials include brochures, exhibition text, printed material, and clippings. Miscellaneous files includes clippings about selected exhibitions, information about competitions and annual shows, correspondence, administrative materials, and shipping materials related to loans of artwork for the exhibitions. A list of exhibitions held by Jacques Seligmann & Co. is also found among the records.
