- Ana Veydó discusses how women have changed the face of música llanera
- Description
- In the plains of eastern Colombia, men have long sung to accompany their tasks of herding and milking cows. Consequently, música llanera (plains music) has a masculine character, and its themes draw from the male-dominated cattle-herding lifestyle. Yet today, one of the most renowned música llanera singers is a woman: Ana Veydó. Veydó is one of the few female singers that follow the recio (robust, coarse) style of joropo singing usually associated with the male voice. Here Veydó discusses the influence of feminine voices in música llanera. [Catalog No. - CFV10044; Copyright - 2006 Smithsonian Institution]
