The Acme Ballot Box, 1880
Object Details
- Description
- Political manipulation and election fraud was often compared to a well-oiled machine. Reformers determined to fight political machines with ballot reform and voting machines. The Acme, an improvement upon the open-slot box, has a lever mechanism that accepts one ballot per voter into the box and counts the ballot at the same time. This particular Acme was used in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, around 1880.
