- Small fragment of bone labeled 174138 found by Ingrid Rochon in early 2018. The piece of bone was much too large to belong to USNM 174138, a specimen of Synaptomys. Carla Dove from the feather lab sequenced a DNA barcode from a small piece of the bone fragment and identified it as Gorilla gorilla on 5 January 2018. Ingrid Rochon made an educated guess that this bone fragment realy belonged to USNM 574138.
