- This Lafayette Issue stamp commemorates the 175th anniversary of the arrival of Marquis de Lafayette in America. The Marquis de Lafayette was a French aristocrat and military officer that served in the Continental Army under George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. The image features a portrait of Lafayette, as well as images of the flags of the United States and France, a cannon and a landing party.
