The Smithsonian Associates presents “Savoring Italy,” a series of educational programs that highlight the many facets of Italy. The series will run from Friday, Oct. 2, to Thursday, Dec. 3, and feature 15 individual presentations, workshops and events that explore Italy’s rich history, unique regions, inspiring works of art and architecture, magnificent music and culinary specialties.

Participants have the opportunity to attend a stunning performance of Puccini’s “La Bohème” by The Washington Chorus, learn the art of Tuscan-style, ceramic tile making using traditional majolica techniques, take an armchair tour of southern Italy’s “heel” and “toe” regions, explore a century of Italian cinema, learn the nuances of delicious Italian cuisine staples, discover the life and art of Michelangelo and meet famed chef, Lidia Bastianich, as she shares methods for translating the gastronomic language of Italy to participants’ own kitchens.
