Smithsonian Associates Presents “A Red-Carpet Night with Oscar”

Smithsonian Associates presents an evening with Washington City Paper film critic, Noah Gittell, that focuses on all things Oscar, from Academy Awards history and trivia to discussions of this year’s nominations and behind-the-scenes stories, Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6:45 p.m. at the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center.

Participants can spend an evening before Academy Awards night Feb. 26 with other movie fans, sipping something festive, talking about the nominated films and performers and casting their vote for the winners in several major categories, with the most accurate predictions eligible for prizes after the awards are presented. Courtesy of Madame Tussauds Washington, D.C., wax figures of George Clooney and Denzel Washington will be on the red carpet, waiting to pose for photos with participants.

Gittell has covered film and politics for publications and sites, including the Atlantic, Guardian, Salon, and L.A. Review of Books. He is a regular on-camera contributor to BBC’s Talking Movies with Tom Brook.
