The April issue of the Smithsonian Associates’ program guide features a variety of educational and cultural programs, including seminars, lectures, studio arts classes, performances for adults and children and local and regional study tours. Highlights this month include:

Azar Nafisi: 2015 Benjamin Franklin Creativity Laureate Presentation

Friday, April 10; 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center

In a special evening presentation, author Azar Nafisi receives the Smithsonian Associates’ 14th annual Benjamin Franklin Creativity Laureate Award in honor of her commitment to the humanities and education, as well as her richness of ideas and originality of thought.

Images of Infinite Worlds

Saturday, April 11; 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden’s Marion and Gustave Ring Auditorium

To mark the Hubble Space Telescope’s 25th anniversary, documentary and portrait photographer Michael Soluri shares images from his recent book, Infinite Worlds: The People and Places of Space Exploration, as well as stories from Hubble’s labor force and crew. Soluri will be joined by four individuals who played key roles in Service Mission 4, the Hubble’s last servicing mission.

Fruit of the Ancient Vine

Monday, April 13; 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center

Piero Mastroberardino, head of the Mastroberardino winery in Campania, Italy, discusses the process of cultivating indigenous grape varieties in Pompeii after being entrusted with the restoration of the ancient city’s vineyards. A wine tasting follows the lecture.

Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and the American West

Thursday, April 30; 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center

Part of the Smithsonian Associates’ 50th anniversary programming on great expeditions and their leaders, Landon Jones introduces the audience to Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. The two led their Corps of Discovery on the most momentous expedition in American history.
