Carla Hall, Co-host of ABC’s The Chew, to Speak at Smithsonian Associates Event
The Smithsonian Associates presents “Carla Hall’s International Flavors of Home” Sunday, June 29, at 6:45 p.m. at the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center at 1100 Jefferson Dr. S.W. For Hall, co-host of ABC’s The Chew, food is a wonderful way to forge connections with and between people. In her new cookbook, Carla’s Comfort Foods: Favorite Dishes from Around the World (Atria Books), she finds inspiration by spanning the world in search of the universal home-cooked flavors of comfort.
Spinning standbys into new recipes, she combines the flavors of home—wherever that may be—with the spices and tastes of international cuisine. For example, Hall will start with the recipe for an all-American burger, then offer variations that include a Persian-style cucumber-yogurt sauce, Vietnamese pickled veggies and gutsy Moroccan spices. Her chicken soups include versions inspired by Italy, India and the Caribbean, and she serves up recipes for desserts from Southern peach cobbler to Greek baklava.
Nashville native Hall attended L’Academie de Cuisine in Bethesda, Md., was a contender on Bravo’s Top Chef and was voted fan favorite on Top Chef All-Stars. She is the owner and executive chef of Carla Hall Petite Cookies, a company based in Washington, D.C., where she lives.
Tickets are $42 for general admission and $35 for Smithsonian Associates members. For tickets the public may call (202) 633-3030 or visit www.smithsonianassociates.org. Hall’s book will be available for sale and signing at the program.
