Santos: Popular Forms of Faith in Latin America

March 16, 1974 – April 15, 1974

See some 50 folk representations of religious personages presented as part of "Tribute to the Arts in the Americas", a varied program of Latin American visual and performing arts, sponsored by the Washington Performing Arts Society and the Organization of American States in various Washington institutions during March.

The highly colored santos are from the Smithsonian's collection of religious folk art from New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Ecuador, Bolivia and Brazil, ranging in date from the late 18th century to the present.
