In the exhibition are about 55 objects—chairs, tables, chests, trunks, cornices, frames, china closets, benches, flour bins, boxes, desks—relying on paint for their principal decorative effect.
Painting techinques include graining, stenciling, freehand painting, japanning, gilding and painted imitation marquetry. Styles include Chippendale, Art Deco and contemporary, as well as German, Norwegian and Spanish ethnic influences.
