On view are 37 watercolor paintings of orchids from the National Orchid Collection and from private collections. About half are scientific illustrations and half are portraits of showy hybrids.

The works on view were painted by Dr. Regina Olson Hughes, a graduate of Gallaudet College and a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. Having retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, she now works with the NMNH Department of Botany. Her plant illustrations have been widely published.
