Optical problems and the representation of movement have occupied this contemporary Venezuelan artist for nearly three decades. A feature of the Exhibition will be one of his Penetrables—a construction into which the visitor enters, thus becoming a participant in the completion of the work. The Penetrable on view, a construction of polyethylene tubing, plastic grids and overhead lighting, creates a shimmering rainfall effect on visitors walking through it.
Organized by the Soloman R. Guggenheim Museum, the exhibition is made up of 49 examples of Soto's work on loan from public and private collections in the U.S., France, and Venezuela.
