The artwork of Shih Chieh Huang explores the unusual evolutionary adaptations undertaken by the mysterious, deep ocean creatures residing in conditions inhospitable for humans. During Huang’s time as a Smithsonian artist research fellow, he explored the bioluminescent marine organisms that inspired this art installation. His creations, with their lights, computer parts, and plastic-tube appendages, evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity as they "float" in the darkness of the gallery.
