- There is a line across the picture which looks like a crack in the glass plate negative. See Neg. #27897 for another view of the flag set up in the West Wing with seamstresses at work.
- Summary
- The Star-Spangled Banner laid out on tables in the West Wing of the Smithsonian Institution Building before it undergoes its 1914 restoration during which an Irish linen backing is attached to the flag. All the exhibitions have been removed from the room except the objects in the cases along the wall. The model of the giant squid hangs from the ceiling.
