- An engraving of Rombertus Dononaeus Mechlini. Robert Dodoen (1517-1585), a Femish physician and Botanist was born in Mechelen, and died in Leiden. He was the court physician of the Austrian emperor Rudolph II in Vienna and professor of medicine at the University of Leiden.
