- This cup trophy has a curved body shape with three evenly spaced handles attached to the body of the cup and made of antler. The engraved text on the front reads: Presented by the Hartford Rubber Works Co. First time prize 25 mile handicap road race F.A.M. Meet, Waltham, Mass. Aug. 9, 1905 On bottom: Smith Patterson Co. Boston 208.
- Summary
- Glenn H. Curtiss built the foundation for his airplane engine fame on the knowledge and prestige he gained from building and racing motorcycles. By 1902 he and three other employees were manufacturing motorcycles under the brand name "Hercules". Due to his competitive nature, Curtiss entered and won many races for both motorcycles and airplanes. He won first prize in the 25 mile handicap road race at the F. A. M. Meet in Waltham, Massachusetts on August 9, 1905.
