- According to Walter Hough, former Head Curator of Anthropology, United States National Museum and author of Collection of Heating and Lighting Utensils in the United States National Museum this type of candlestick was prevalent in south Central Europe. It is sometimes referred to as a coil or spiral candlestick. This example sits on a round drip pan with tripod legs. A guiding hook allows the height of the candle to be adjusted.
