- At age eight, Antonia Hernandez moved from Torreon, Mexico, to Los Angeles, California, where she experienced the inequities of life as an immigrant. Childhood memories of injustice inspired her to promote Latino agency as a student activist at UCLA and as a staff attorney at the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice.
- In 1979, Hernandez became the first Latina counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, soon joining the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF). Rising to MALDEF president and general counsel, Hernandez championed a constituency of 29 million Latinos through legal and political initiatives. Since 2004, she has led the California Community Foundation, as a supporter of local nonprofits focused on increasing public access to health services, housing, education, and the arts. This print, by distinguished Chicana artist Barbara Carrasco, celebrates Hernandez’s legacy as a leading legal and cultural advocate for Latinos and other underserved populations in the United States.

- A la edad de ocho años, Antonia Hernández salió de Torreón, México, hacia Los Ángeles, California, donde sufrió en carne propia las inequidades que viven los inmigrantes. El recuerdo de las injusticias que vio de niña inspiró su activismo a favor del empoderamiento de los latinos, primero mientras estudiaba en la Universidad de California y luego como abogada en el Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice.
- En 1979 Hernández se convirtió en la primera asesora legal latina del Comité de Asuntos Judiciales del Senado de EE.UU. Pronto se integró al MALDEF (Fondo Mexicano-Americano para la Defensa Legal y la Educación), llegando a ser presidenta y principal asesora legal de la organización, desde la cual abogó por 29 millones de latinos a través de iniciativas legales y políticas. Desde 2004 dirige la California Community Foundation para apoyar a organizaciones locales sin fines de lucro dedicadas a mejorar el acceso público a servicios de salud, vivienda, educación y las artes. Esta serigrafía, realizada por la distinguida artista chicana Barbara Carrasco, celebra el legado de Hernández como destacada defensora legal y cultural de los latinos y otras poblaciones desatendidas de Estados Unidos.
