Smithsonian National Book Fair

Calling all Boys & Girls Clubs of America!

The Smithsonian Institution, Amazon Prime, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), and the National Football League (NFL) have partnered together to donate 1 million books and literacy resources to Boys & Girls Clubs across the country! By combining the strengths of these leading institutions, we aim to create a lasting impact, demonstrating our shared commitment to empowering the next generation through the transformative power of literacy.

The project partners have developed a tiered engagement approach, with universal, targeted, and intensive outreach to NFL markets nationwide. On behalf of our team, we’re delighted to be able to share this opportunity with you, inspiring new passions and possibilities for young readers at your Club and in our community.

Tier 1: Pep Rally in your Club

Roll out the red carpet! NFL ambassadors and players spend time with kids, playing games with them, sharing the importance of reading and their love for books. These festive events will combine book distribution with interactive activities inspired by Smithsonian content.

The Smithsonian and Boys & Girls Clubs of America teams are currently identifying 4-7 BGCA sites for the most intensive pep-rally style distribution for approximately 200-250 students. Each child would receive approximately 6 books.

Site locations are currently being identified based on capacity and partner readiness by the BGCA.

Tier 2: DIY Book Fair

At the next targeted tier of engagement, approximately 40 BGCA organizations will receive DoIt-Yourself (DIY) book fair resources, including books, activity ideas, and coaching; as well as passthrough funding to support supplies. We plan to distribute 5 books per youth to approximately 500 youth across 40 locations that map to NFL markets nationwide.
