- Landscape study showing view of Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina near town of Hot Springs (then called Warm Springs). Brown and green field comprises foreground, and hosts a seemingly deteriorated wooden structure at center left. Rvier visible through trees at left of structure. In middle distance at left, a sharp hilltop is illuminated by the light of the setting sun. Slope descends from left to right into a darkened dell and opposite ridgeline, at right. Sky above a mix of clear blue and whipsy clouds, some of which are colored purple.
