The November issue of the Smithsonian Associates’ program guide features a variety of educational and cultural programs, including seminars, lectures, studio arts classes, performances for adults and children and local and regional study tours. Highlights this month include:

The Secret History of Wonder Woman

Wednesday, Nov. 5; 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center

Harvard historian and New Yorker writer Jill Lepore explains the origins of Wonder Woman and connects the character and its creator to the movements and ideas that shaped the changing role of American women.

The “Chicken from Hell” and the Last American Dinosaurs

Tuesday, Nov. 18; 6: 45 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center

Paleontologist Hans Sues discusses the last American dinosaurs, including the newly discovered Anzu wyliei, dubbed the “Chicken from Hell,” Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops and a variety of others.

Dorie Greenspan: Desserts with a French Accent

Friday, Nov. 21; 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Greenspan discusses her adventures on the sweet side of French cuisine in conversation with Joe Yonan, Washington Post food and travel editor.

Smithsonian Castle, The Commons

Juilliard Historical Performance graduate program leader Robert Mealy joins Smithsonian Chamber Music Society artistic director Kenneth Slowik to conclude their survey of Johann Sebastian Bach’s six sonatas for harpsichord and violin. They also celebrate Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s 300th birthday, performing two of his empfindsamer Stil (“sensitive style”) duos.
