- Description
- Prior to his career as a United States Senator, Bill Bradley (b. 1943) first attained national fame as an All-American forward on Princeton University's basketball team (1962-1965.) Bradley averaged a gaudy 30.2 points per game over the course of his collegiate career, leading the Tigers to three consecutive Ivy League Championships. In 1965 Bradley won both NCAA player of the year and the Sullivan Award for the nation's best amateur athlete, bringing Princeton to an unexpected third-place finish in that year's NCAA tournament.
- Bradley's other basketball accomplishments include captaincy of the United States Olympic Gold Medal team in 1964, a Euroleague championship with Olimpia Simmenthal Milano in 1966, and two NBA titles as a starter with the New York Knicks (1970 & 1973.) He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983.
- Following the completion of his professional career in 1977, Bradley served as a Senator for the state of New Jersey for three consecutive terms (1978 – 1999,) unsuccessfully running for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2000.
- A Rhodes Scholar, Bradley proved that one could be a success in both academics and athletics.
