- This bronze Wright Brothers 20th Anniversary plaque depicts a relief of the 1903 Wright Flyer and the Barling Bomber with embossed text "20TH ANNIVERSARY WRIGHT BROTHERS FLIGHTS 1903-1923". On the reverse side, engraved text "PRESENTED TO ORVILLE WRIGHT BY THE NATIONAL AERONAUTIC ASSOCIATION AT A MASS MEETING OF DAYTON CITIZENS IN THE NATIONAL CASH REGISTER COMPANY AUDITORIUM DECEMBER 17, 1925 IN COMMEMORATION OF THE FIRST FLIGHT AT KITTY HAWK NORTH CAROLINA DECEMBER 17, 1903".
- Summary
- On December 17, 1903, the Wright Brothers completed their first controlled flight with the 1903 Wright Flyer powered, heavier-than-air machine in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The brothers' achievements gave birth to the new age of controlled flight. This plaque was presented to Orville Wright by the National Aeronautic Association at a mass meeting of the Dayton citizens in the National Cash Register Company Auditorium on December 17, 1925 in commemoration of the first flight.
