- James Mead purchased a watercolor painting of this specimen that had been done by Karl Kenyon at the 16th Biennial Conference of the Society for Marine Mammalogy, San Diego, 12-16 December 2005.. The painting was found by William Perrin at a garage sale in 1991. Perrin wrote to Kenyon and got a letter back that said this specimen had been taken en-riute from Petersburg to Juneau on the "Black Douglas".
