- This is a 1:48 scale model of the Saturn IB, one of the rockets developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for use in the Apollo program. The two-stage Saturn IB utilized eight liquid-fuel engines in its first stage and one liquid-fuel engine in its second. Saturn IBs were used to launch three unmanned Apollo command modules and one unmanned Apollo lunar module in 1966-1968. In October 1968, it launched the first manned Apollo mission (Apollo 7) into Earth orbit. In November 1973, they launched the final Skylab crew in orbit and in July 1975 the United States crew for the joint docking with two Soviet cosmonauts in the Apollo-Soyuz Test Program. This model was built by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, which transferred it to NASM in 1971.
