- This machete was part of one of two survival rucksacks transferred to the Smithsonian in 1978. Documentation tags attached is several items within these rucksacks indicate that some were carried aboard Apollo 15 in July/August 1971. Items making up the second rucksack were presumably used for training. There are two survival machetes, both are associated with an aluminum sheath. The knives have razor-sharp stainless steel blades with back edges designed to perform as a saw.
