- Description
- Landscape sketch showing a view of Great Head from Sand Beach on Mount Desert Island in Maine. In the immediate foreground, nearby rocks are rendered only in graphite, revealing the brick-colored grounding, while waves crash on the sandy beach just beyond them. The dark greenish-blue waters of Newport Cove extend over the middle distance until they encounter the sheer, rocky cliffs on the western side of Great Head that rise abruptly at left and center. The cape's wooded hills rise over these red-toned cliff, which taper down to a rocky point at center right. An open and warmly-hued sky reigns above.
