- A golf ball was a natural campaign item for the 1992 re-election campaign of President George H.W. Bush and Vice President Dan Quayle. Bush grew up watching his father play golf with President Dwight Eisenhower, Quayle was the captain of the golf team at DePauw University, and both enjoyed playing golf during their administration. President Bush has been consistently rated as one of the three best presidential golfers. He lost the 1992 election to his Democratic challenger Bill Clinton, also a top ten presidential golfer but with skills typically ranked behind those of his predecessor.
