- To keep the 1996 Republican National Convention on schedule, this podium-mounted device warned speakers when their time was almost up. The convention managers said never had to hit the red light! The convention nominated Bob Dole, senator from Kansas. Dole lost the election to the incumbent president Bill Clinton.
