- (1/4) Chordophone. Flat, hollow, and trapezoidal box made of wood with lid (2/4). Fourteen groups of four thin wire strings are stretched across the box over and beneath two diagonal bridges. A piece is broken off of one bridge. Played with a thin bamboo stick (3/4). One separate brass tuning key (4/4). The dulcimer is used in chamber music ensembles.
