- One look at her face does not reveal a typical fifteen-year-old high school sophomore, although in many ways she was. Actress and supermodel Brooke Shields, however, was an extraordinarily stunning prodigy. Her photogenic beauty was real, and she rivaled Elizabeth Taylor with her flawless features and a complexion of natural luster. Yet even as a veteran of eight Hollywood films, Shields compelled Time to ask, “Can she act?” And it then speculated that her forthcoming performance in Franco Zeffirelli’s Endless Love (1981) “should answer some of the questions.”

- In 1978, Time magazine donated approximately eight hundred works of original cover art to the National Portrait Gallery. The museum is dedicated to telling the stories of individuals who have shaped the United States, and the Time Collection—featuring prominent international figures and events—enriches our understanding of the United States in a global context.
