- Description
- Acquired by the Smithsonian in 1929 from the H. K. Mulford Company, this product was the first anti-venin in the U.S. to be manufactured specifically for use in cases of pit-viper bite. According to literature provided by the company, the product was effective against "the venoms of the rattlesnakes, copperhead and moccasin - snakes of the of the family Crotalidae in North America." The company specified that the dose should be "10 cc administered subcutaneously, as soon as possible after infliction of the bite, but necessarily between 12 and 24 hours."
