Aloe Precision Tuberculin Syringe, 1 cc.

National Museum of American History

Object Details

A. S. Aloe and Company
Description
Syringe with an “ALOE PRECISION / U.S.A.” inscription. Inscriptions on the cardboard box read in part “ALOE PRECISION / Tuberculin Syringe / LUER TYPE” and “Distributed by / A. S. ALOE COMPANY.”
In 1907, Clemens von Pirquet (1874-1929), an Austrian pediatrician, developed a skin test that put a small amount of tuberculin under the skin and measured the body's reaction. In 1908, Charles Mantoux (1877-1947), a French physician, updated the test by using a needle and syringe to inject the tuberculin.
