- Summary
- This action figure depicts the character of Prof. John Robinson from the 1998 feature film "Lost in Space," based on Irwin Allen's popular science fiction television show of the same title presented on CBS from 1965 to 1968. It was a space-age adaptation of the 1812 novel Swiss Family Robinson (Der Schweizerische Robinson) by Swiss pastor Johann David Wyss. Wyss wrote the book to teach self-reliance and family values to his sons. "Lost in Space" transposed these themes into a space setting in which a modern Robinson family faced and survived by their own self-reliance and family cooperation a variety of ordeals while stranded in deep space .
- Although the TV show was cancelled after three episodes, like "Star Trek," it developed a cult following that spawned merchandise, fan clubs, and the 1998 film. The toy was donated to the Smithsonian in 2005 by Gregory K. H. Bryant.
