- Description
- Landscape sketch showing a view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon in Athens, Greece, from the south at sunrise. In the foreground, columns and other ruins or buildings are loosely rendered within lush, rolling terrain that ascends to the Acropolis in the middle distance. A relatively flat plateau with sheer cliffs, the Acropolis hosts the ruinous Parthenon, as both catch the golden-pink light of the rising sun. In the background at left, a purple mountain range is colored pink by the sunrise, which renders the sky a dim shade of orange-blue.
