- Description
- The Postal Service issued a 34-cent Lucille Ball Legends of Hollywood commemorative stamp in Los Angeles, California, on August 6, 2001. The stamp was designed by Derry Noyes of Washington, DC, and illustrated by Drew Struzan of Pasadena, California.
- Lucille Desiree Ball (1911-1989) was a prominent star of stage, screen, radio, and especially television. Winning four Emmy Awards, she was one of the first inductees into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame in 1984, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 1986. She was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1989. For nearly three decades, Lucille Ball endeared herself to viewers in her television role as Lucy Ricardo on "I Love Lucy," which debuted in 1951 and ran until 1957.
- The Banknote Corporation of America, Inc., printed 110 million stamps in the offset process. The stamp was issued in a pane of twenty.
