- The Postal Service promoted literacy with a block of four 29-cent Classic Books stamps issued on October 23, 1993, in Louisville, Kentucky. The stamps feature images of four of America' most beloved and popular stories -- "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," "Little House on the Prairie," "Little Women," and "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm."
- The issuance of the Youth Classics stamps was in conjunction with the annual conference of Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc., which celebrated thirty-one years of service in 1993.
- The Postal Service also partnered with the Library of Congress in a 1993 national reading promotion campaign. As part of the promotion, the Youth Classics stamps were featured on a poster that saluted the theme "Books Change Lives." The poster, which was designed to remind Americans of the joys of reading and stamp collecting, appeared in libraries nationwide.
- Designed by Jim Lamb of Issaquah, Washington, the stamps were printed in the offset/intaglio process by the American Bank Note Company.
