The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino has received a $1 million gift from Fox Corporation, establishing the media company as a founding donor of the museum. The gift will support the new museum’s design and construction and planning for its public programs and exhibitions.

“Building a national museum requires a national effort from all industries,” said Jorge Zamanillo, director of the National Museum of the American Latino. “Support from companies like Fox Corporation is essential to building a space and collection worthy of our mission and to telling the enduring story of Latinos and Latinas in the United States.”

“We are proud to support the Smithsonian Institution in creating the nation’s premier destination to discover and celebrate American Latino history and culture,” said FOX Corporation Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer Lachlan Murdoch. “Fox shares the Smithsonian’s mission to capture and preserve Latino stories and voices and to illustrate their impact in our communities.”

The American Latino Museum opened its first exhibition and gallery in June at the National Museum of American History. The exhibition “!Presente! A Latino History of the United States” showcases diverse stories from the Latinas and Latinos whose experiences have shaped the history of the United States.
