Why Vote?

July 11, 2005 – October 16, 2005

Anacostia Community Museum
1901 Fort Place, SE
Washington, DC

Location: Main Gallery

In this mixed-media installation, artist DeWayne Barton uses poetry and campaign memorabilia--get-out-the-vote signs, photos of noted public figures, campaign buttons, and images of U.S. currency--to fashion a personal statement about voting, the electoral process, and African American disenfranchisement. Barton grew up in the Barry Farms section of Anacostia.
