Critically examine popular misconceptions created by these images of expansion in 164 paintings, sculptures, graphics, and photographs that link the opening of the western frontier. Major artists featured include Bierstadt, Catlin, Bingham, Remington, Leutze, Fuller, Moran, and their contemporaries.
