Isamu Noguchi: Master Sculptor

February 10, 2005 – May 8, 2005

Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden
7th and Independence Ave., SW
Washington, DC

Location: Level 2

This exhibition, marking the centennial of Isamu Noguchi's birth (1904-1988), is the first museum show in over 30 years to highlight the tremendous diversity of forms, ideas, and materials in his sculptural works. On view are approximately 55 sculptures and 25 works on paper -- including works rarely or never before seen -- with special emphasis on sculptures made between 1932-1962. The son of a Japanese poet and an American writer, he was a master 20th-century sculptor who drew upon his biracial heritage to produce a body of work characterized by its poetic and technical mastery.
